We offer responsible, efficient, reliable and affordable transportation to those who need it. It is targeted mainly to seniors, people with disabilities and special needs that have no means of getting where they need to go. Our main focus is to provide a way to travel to medical appointments, to do groceries, or even to just visit friends and family.

Due to being an isolated rural area, any tests or appointments with medical specialists are two hours away. Most of our clients are seniors and don’t drive themselves or don’t have family close by to help. The demands for trips outside the region have increased tremendously over the last year. This is probably due to our aging population, which is only going to increase.

That makes L’Acabie a service that is a necessity in our area. Accessible transportation is the lifeblood of rural and remote areas, connecting people to place, whether for medical, work, social or educational needs. The benefits of this service are more social inclusion, independence, and better access to education, employment, recreation and healthcare.

With increased demand our expenses have increased significantly. We are always looking for ways to subsidize our fares so we don’t have to increase our prices. It is quite challenging.

We receive funding from the Government under the CTAP (Community Transport Accessible Program), and from the Municipality of the County of Inverness. This funding is based on population and not geography.

This much needed service is a success due to the dedication of our many volunteers, government and municipality funding, and employees that go above and beyond, to assure our operations run adequately to provide safe, reliable and affordable transit to these remote areas.

La Cooperative de Transport de Cheticamp is always accepting monetary donations. These can be made by cheque made out to La Cooperative de Transport de Cheticamp or L’Acabie Transport, or by etransfer to [email protected]

Thank you.
